MILITARY SERVICE

Dr Sullivan was commissioned as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy in 2013. During her time in the Navy, she was selected for the Naval Aeromedical Officer Course and earned her designation as a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. Her service as a Flight Surgeon included key assignments at Naval Support Activity Bahrain and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where she supported vital flight operations across multiple regions and deployed in support of Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 225. It was during this time that Dr. Sullivan developed an interest in vision and ocular health, recognizing the critical impact it had on the proficiency of pilots and aircrew. After witnessing first-hand the profound way vision correction surgery positively enhanced active duty service members’ ability to perform on and off the battle field, she decided to pursue a career as an eye surgeon. Following her residency training in ophthalmology, Dr Sullivan was selected to serve as the Department Head of Ophthalmology at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa where she provided critical surgical eye care to services members and their families throughout the pacific area of operations.

Dr. Sullivan was then transferred to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, where she served as an Ophthalmologist at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and Flight Surgeon for Marine Corps Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303. In this unique dual role, Dr. Sullivan worked directly with pilots and aircrew both on the flight line and in the operating suite, providing corrective eye surgery and expertise. She is excited to bring this same surgical excellence and precision to the Twin Cities area.
